Borrowing Rules

 

A North Merrick Public Library card holder can borrow materials from every other public library in Nassau County.  Borrowing privileges at other public libraries are subject to the borrowing rules of each institution.

 

Materials that are borrowed from the library can be returned to any other library in Nassau County.  Materials that are not returned to their home library are routed back to the owning agency via an interlibrary book delivery system. 

 

 

Materials circulated by the library will be subject to the following loan periods and fines*:

*Note: Fines and loan periods are subject to change.

Books are deemed as New Arrivals for the first 6 months.

Feature Film DVDs are deemed as New Arrivals for the first 3 months.

Magazines do not circulate for the first month.

 

Renewals

 

Most items may be renewed twice on a borrower’s card provided that:

  • There are no holds or prior requests for the outstanding item.

  • The item is not overdue.

  • Fines on the patron’s account do not exceed $10.00.

  • The lending library allows it (for items that were borrowed from a library other than the North Merrick Public Library).

 

Exceptions: New DVDs and 14 day loan items are not renewable.

 

Renewals may be made in person, over the phone and online.
